A Note from Pastor Paul

Last night I interviewed Todd Monger a Woodridge attender, Educator and Private Practice Counselor about best practices for mental health. The interview is on Livestream. My big takeaways are to examine my beliefs and replace false beliefs and also to watch  what I ruminate about. Please watch it is  very helpful. I'm very grateful to Todd for his help and insights.

No small groups or gatherings meeting at Woodridge this week.

Watch our Livestreamed Worship Experience Wednesday night at 6pm!

Updated March 13, 2020

Dear Woodridge Family,

With the continued spread of the Coronavirus, I want to provide you with this update as to how we are responding and preparing as a church.  We respect, value and cherish the health of our church and community. As a result we are taking the following steps:

Today our state officials announced the recommendation of suspending large gatherings for the time being.  This declaration covers faith-based organizations over 250 people and smaller groups where  sufficient distances person to person can not be maintained.   We value the health and safety of every person and in honoring these state recommendations we  have made the decision to suspend all in person gatherings for the time being.  Our weekend service will be Livestreamed and will always be accessible on Livestream and our website..

We have been expecting this decision to happen, we just didn’t know when it was going to take place and so we have been working on some alternative ways for our community to engage together during this time and stay connected as a family.

Here are some specific ways we can worship and grow together as a church family:

Join us on our Livestream Services

These services are available to view anytime but if you can try to watch at 5pm Saturday or 9am or 10:30am on Sunday  All services can also be found on our website. Our hope is to create an intimate and unique experience for you to watch as an individual or in a small group at home on a TV, tablet, or phone. We will try to have live interaction during our service times. I plan to be available during each service time to receive comments and prayer requests.

Zoom Gatherings

We are going to start using a platform called Zoom in order to have on-line gatherings. More information about these opportunities from small groups and ministry leaders will be posted on our website as they become available and in our E-News.

Visit this new page on our website for regular updates on this current situation.

Follow Us on Social Media

This is a great way to stay connected and we hope to post some stories of how God is working in our lives in these times showing Christ's love! Our Social Media links are at the bottom of this email.

Give Online

Our hope is to be able to continue to pay all of the people that we employ and have contractual relationships with throughout this unusual season.

Many  here at Woodridge Church  are salaried workers whose pay will continue to come in. But, some are not and we want to have a financial cushion that allows us to support our church family and our community more broadly. If you find yourself in need please reach out so we can figure out how to help you. Please consider setting up online giving using the link below. If you are already giving online consider evaluating how much you are giving.

As your pastor I want to say to you that Jesus is still Lord at Woodridge Church and we are choosing faith over fear. Like Jesus is Immanuel God with us, we are going to be with and for each other and our neighbors in the days and weeks ahead. What it looks like for us to be with and for others is going to be a moving target but it is one that we are aimed at. If you are anxious or afraid reach out. If you are sick reach out. Most of the time we talk about choosing relationship over religion but right now you need to choose relationship (even if it is mediated through a screen) over isolation, fear, and anxiety.

The threat of this virus is very real but in a strange way this threat also comes with an amazing opportunity for our souls. For some of us, this virus is a reminder that we have been relying on other things for hope, safety, and security. We have an opportunity to confess and return to Jesus in transformative ways. For some of us, this virus is a forced slow down to an almost out of control pace of living. We have the opportunity to connect and re-connect with loved ones and with God. For some of us, the way we have prepared for this virus has reminded us of our temptation for selfishness. We have an opportunity, in responsible and healthy ways, to put others first, to love, and to sacrifice.

Finally, I want you to know that I am not an expert but I am well informed and I care about you. I am doing everything I can to stay informed locally and nationally about what is going on and I am paying attention to information and best practices from the CDC and MDH. If you are aware of information, best practices, or resources that have been an encouragement to you I would love it if you would share them with me. If you are sick, afraid, confused, or lonely  please reach out to me so that our team can come alongside you in ways that we are able to.

If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. You can send an email to info@woodridgechurch and we’ll be glad to help. We will be monitoring the situation closely and will soon have this information on our website.

As a church we know that the best weapon we have to meet these unsettling threats is prayer. Pray fervently for the recovery of all who have been impacted by the virus, pray for our healthcare workers, and the end to this virus in our world.

Together we can live out the Love of Jesus by the power of Jesus in uncertain times!
